Dallas Comic-Con Recap

This is rather delayed, but on Saturday, May 21 (we lived!) I went to Dallas, TX for Dallas Comic-Con. Guests included Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Leonard Nimoy (Spock), Stan Lee (Stan Lee), and that guy that Darth Vader choked in a New Hope! Leonard Nimoy gave a presentation in which he told stories of his life, revealed his part in the upcoming Transformers movie, and showcased his wonderful sense of humor. I didn’t get to see Stan Lee’s presentation because it was on Sunday, however. All four mentioned guests did autograph signings. I went to Nimoy’s and Lee’s. Stan Lee’s was, to say in the least, lame. I handed my picture to some big dude who then handed it to Stan. I had to go around behind the big dude where he would then give me the signed photo. However, Nimoy’s was much more open and friendly. He himself took the photo from me and made small talk while he signed. Although I didn’t attend Carrie Fisher’s signing, I was told she seemed quite crazy. Apparently, her hair was all over the place and she hummed creepily nonstop. The booths were pretty cool. You could tell which ones were more professional, though. There were a lot of artists drawing right there. Anyways, it was pretty awesome, and I had a great time. I recommend that you make plans to go to a future one.

Belated GeekySpeak Birthday

Yesterday marked the 1 year mark of the start of this website! A year in, and pretty much nothing has changed, and only a couple dozen posts have been made. Maybe that will make me want to work on the site more often. We’ll see. Happy Belated Birthday GeekySpeak!

Green Lantern: The Animated Series

When I first heard about this, I was uber excited. Then I did some research on it. It is to be released in 2011 and it’s going to be A CGI SHOW! Now that is a disappointment. All the superhero cartoons that came out in the 90’s and bore the subtitle “The Animated Series” were the best superhero cartoons of all time. Ex: X-Men: The Animated Series, Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, and Spider-Man: The Animated Series. Those were my favorite shows growing up. And now, they’re going to taint that subtitle and The Green Lantern by making a CGI show. The Green Lantern definitely deserves his own show, but a classic style one. Someone needs to get the guys at WB to make Green Lantern: The Animated Series a 2D show. Post a comment with your thoughts on the subject.

Upcoming Movies

Over the next few years there are to be several superhero movie released. Green Lantern, Batman 3, Iron Man 3, Spider-Man(untitled reboot), Fantastic 4(untitled reboot), Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, Superman: Man of Steel (written/produced by Christopher Nolan[Batman Trilogy]), The Avengers,  X-Men: First Class, Deadpool (maybe), X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2, X-Men Origins: Magneto, Dr. Strange, The Green Hornet, Ghost Rider 2,  and even Ant-man(Not sure about a movie about Ant-man, but it is going to be directed by the director of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World!)! That’s a lot of movies. The Green Hornet is coming out around Christmas this year, Thor next May, and Green Lantern in June, and I’m not too sure about the others. I’m pretty excited about most of these. The Green Lantern trailer will first be seen before Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 which will be released on November 19, 2010, and I really don’t know anything about any of the other trailers.  Hope you’re as excited as I am.

Blackest Night

I recently read the Green Lantern series, Blackest Night. It is relatively new and an amaza-zing comic series. In it, deceased characters from the DC Universe are risen from the grave by Nekron, The Black Hand, and his Black Rings. The Green Lantern Corps must work with with the six other corps to defeat the Black Hand. I highly recommend  this series to any comic fans- even if you aren’t a Green Lantern fan, because it has about every character from all of the generations of the DC Universe.

Captain Fantastic…

Music graduate and an obvious geek, George Garratt, 19, recently had his name legally changed to Captain Fantastic Faster Than Superman Spiderman Batman Wolverine The Hulk and Flash Combined.

Captain Fantastic said: “I wanted to be unique. I decided upon a theme of superheroes.”

The teenager, from Glastonbury, Somerset, added that while he thought the new name was “crazy”, his grandmother was no longer speaking to him.

Captain Fantastic joins a number of people with unusually long names, including Rhoshandiatellyneshiaunneveshenk Koyaanisquatsiuth Williams, a girl born in Texas in 1984.

We now know that Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) is to play Hal Jordan (Green Lantern). But who is to play Cap? There have been several rumors about it. The rumors have included Mike Vogel (“She’s Out of My League”), Garrett Hedlund (“Tron Legacy”), Chris Evans (“Fantastic Four”), Scott Porter (“Friday Night Lights”), Chace Crawford (“Gossip Girl”) and Michael Cassidy (“Smallville”).
